Detox Foods and Detox Drinks

I wanted to share a couple more healthy detox foods which you can include in your detox diet, that will help replace some of the foods to avoid on a detox, and to add some flavors to what you’re already eating.

Detox drink - non-dairy milk

Almond, sesame and rice milks are all a healthy detox drink and suitable for you to use while you are detoxing. They do, of course, taste a little different from cow’s milk, but you will quickly get used to the taste.

You can use them in exactly the same way as you would do cow’s milk - on muesli, in porridge, or simply as a detox drink. You can make your own almond milk by soaking a handful of blanched almonds overnight in 300 ml of water (use a little more water if you prefer a thinner milk). Remove the skins then whiz in a blender, with an optional vanilla pod for additional flavor, until smooth.

Soya milk and other soya products are best kept to a minimum. If you do include it, go for organic, unsweetened soya milk.

Detox foods - Fresh herbs, spices, flavorings

Fresh herbs (such as coriander, basil, oregano, mint, parsley, marjoram), spices, lemon juice, lime juice, freshly ground black pepper and cider vinegar can all be used to add flavor to cooked dishes and salads instead of salt. In fact fresh herbs are particularly beneficial on a detox diet.

Most varieties or herbs help digestion and have a natural cleansing effect. Spices, such as ginger, coriander seeds, dill, caraway and fennel seeds are really useful because they also help digestion.

So next time you buy groceries, add some of these detox foods and detox drink suggestions to your list. I’m sure they’ll really help brighten up your diet.
