Your Detox Diet Shopping List

The first couple of days of your detox diet may be tough, so to really help yourself you should remove any “detox unfriendly” foods before you start. If you only have healthy detox diet foods in your house, you’ll have a much easier time of it during those first couple of days.

If there are chocolate biscuits in the cupboard or some chilled Chardonnay in the fridge, the chances are you’ll succumb during a weak moment and break your detox diet. Clear out ‘banned’ foods, give them away to friends or family, and replace with delicious detox foods to give you the best chance of success.

Foods to avoid

It is so easy when you are pushing your trolley up and down the aisles of the supermarket to be tempted by all sorts of unhealthy and junk foods and to pop them in – especially if they bake their own bread on the premises (my personal favorite/downfall). However, you must learn to harden your resolve and opt for the healthy detox diet foods avoiding the foods featured below.

  • Wheat products; including bread, wheat-based breakfast cereals, pasta, flour, noodles (except rice noodles), couscous, cakes, biscuits and pizza.
  • Processed foods: including ready meals, ready-made sauces, condiments, stock cubes (unless organic), potato crisps, desserts, spreads, and anything that contains artificial additives. Always check the labels if you are unsure.
  • Dairy products: such as milk, cow’s cheese, cream, butter and normal, non-live yoghurts.
  • All meat, poultry, game and non-organic fish.
  • Caffeine: including black or green tea, coffee, chocolate, colas and other fizzy drinks, as well as painkillers.
  • Sugars: including sweets, squashes, cordials and any juices except freshly squeezed.
  • Alcohol.

Don’t look at them as being banned forever – just while you’re on your detox diet. After that, you can start re-introducing them again (but gradually and in moderation).
