Detox Diet Tips – Food Choices For Detox Diets

Have at least one portion of non-dairy yoghurt or non-dairy milk in your detox diet every day. Goat’s and sheep’s milk products are more easily digested than those made from cow’s milk. Soy milk is also good for you The fermentation process used in their manufacture means that non-dairy products are easier on the digestive system and, in some cases, can actually stimulate digestion.

Many people who have developed an allergy or intolerance to dairy products find they have no reaction to products based on either sheep’s or goat’s milk. And their nutritional values are virtually identical.

Include two portions of either oily fish. pulses, nuts, olive or seed oil in your detox diet every day

Fish contains essential nutrients, and oily fish has the added benefit of the omega 3 fatty acids. Eating oily fish can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, help protect bones, joints and skin, and is said to protect against some cancers.

Whenever possible you should include fresh fish in your detox diet. If no fresh is available, or you are using tinned fish for convenience, then the best varieties are those tinned in olive or vegetable oil.

Some fish is tinned in spring water but check that no salt has been added. If this is the case, make sure the fish is drained completely and rinsed before eating. Fish in brine is too salty and should not be used on any detox diet. Smoked fish is acceptable but should be naturally smoked and not dyed or colored.

Naturally smoked and undyed fish can be found both in your supermarket and at the fishmongers. If you cannot find any in stock then you can normally place an order and they can buy it at market especially. They do their shopping more frequently – and earlier – than we do, and are generally happy to oblige.

Nuts are extremely high in nutrients and make a tasty addition to all detox diets. Yes, they are high in calories but they are also high in essential unsaturated fatty acids and provide a rich source of potassium and fiber. Nuts should be eaten raw, unsalted and fresh.

Seeds are also high in nutrients, and, once they are freshly sprouted, the nutrient content becomes even higher. Sprouted seeds are almost compulsory items in a detox diet because they are easier to digest as they are already partially digested.

Seeds and sprouts will add flavor and color to your detox diet but their vitamin and nutrient content is of ultimate importance.

It’s essential to include some fats in your detox diet but not all fats are good for you. Fats that come in oil form are the best, polyunsaturated. Seed or nut oils should make up part of your everyday diet (even when you’re not detoxing) in order to increase your health substantially. Try using sesame oil, sunflower oil and different nut oils in your salad dressing.
