Don’t worry – detox recipes are not all broccoli and brown rice. Healthy detox food should be colorful, tasty and full of different textures and flavors to make it interesting and satisfying to eat. The detox recipes I cover on my blog all serve one, unless otherwise indicated, and they are presented so that if you are on a strict vegan detox, you can omit the fish, cheese or yoghurt additions without spoiling the dish.
Detox Recipe For A Healthy Breakfast
This provides a good dose of fiber, B vitamins, iron, magnesium, zinc, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids from the seeds, protein and minerals from the nuts, and vitamin C from the fruit. Adjust the quantities according to your appetite and preference.
Ingredients
- 4-5 dsp whole oat flakes1-2 dsp sunflower seeds
- 1-2 dsp pumpkin seeds
- 4-5 Brazil nuts or 6-8 other unsalted nuts of your choice
- half dessertspoon organic dried fruit (this may not be necessary if your fresh fruit is sweet enough)
non-dairy soya, almond or rice milk - fresh fruit in season e.g. strawberries, raspberries, chopped mango, peach, pear or apple, gooseberries, blueberries.
The oat flakes are easiest to digest if you soak then in the milk for a couple of hours (or leave them overnight in the fridge). Toasting in a hot oven or dry-frying brings out the flavor of the sunflower and pumpkins seeds. But if you’re in a hurry, as most of us are in the morning, you can just place all these detox recipes ingredients in a bowl and eat.
